1993 FORD 8770

We just bought a FORD 8770. I am not familer with these tractors so looking for some help from someone that knows about these tractors. It is a power shift and I do not have a operators manual for it yet but have one on the way. The problem that I have now is that when in gear, foward or reverse it will stop moving at times. Will not move foward or backwards untill I shut off the tractor and start it back up then will work fine. Every time I start it back up it is in 5th gear even if it stoped in 3rd gear. When it stops moving there is some numbers flashing on the left side of the dash. Can anyone tell me whats going on?

It's been several years since i've run a Genesis but does its have a neutral in between forward and reverse? It sounds like its kicking into neutral when it stops. You'll want the flashing numbers cuz thats the fault code. If it does have the neutral in-between you can place lever in neutral then move it back to forward or reverse position and should start moving again without shutting off tractor. I'm sure there is a sensor issue causing the problem. Computer must be preprogrammed to take off in 5th, I can't remember if the 8870 we used did that or not. Our MX180 takes off in 6th, your manual will have info on all this and a good dealer will be a plus. You will like the tractor once you get things figured out:) Also post this in the ford section for Bern to read.
