1996 Kawasaki Mule

Had the mule brought in to have looked at. Wasn't firing. Long story short, the motor needs an overhaul. Ext. is over 2k. Have found re maned for 1400 but still more than what wife wants to pay. Anybody have any ideas on how to re power this unit.

I dropped a 13hp air cooled Briggs in, works well but bit less power. Took extensive modifications and a longer belt, but did away with that pesky cooling system

Did you do a compression check on the motor yourself. I ask because I have a 1996 and mine did the same thing. I took it in and they did something to the wiring and they found the needle valve was sticking causing the air filter to be full of gas. They said the 2 were connected some how which I still have not figured out. I got it back and it runs great

I would do some careful evaluation before giving up on the original motor.

It would be a tough job to retro fit that engine and still have a reliable machine.

It won't fire?

As in no spark? No compression? Any more details available?

Those are known for the valves tightening up, could be something simple.

It has been looked at by Mechanics. Gears between crank shaft and rocker shaft are shot. Push rods bent, water pump gear is shot. So it isn't spark or fuel. The internal parts are shot.
