Hi everyone my name is Loren and I am from southern Mn. but you probably figured that out by my user name. I have enjoyed reading this forum for quite some time, everyone seems so helpful. I recently purchased Case model 500 Western tractor from a neighbor. It hasn't run in over 10 years and it's my winter project to get it up and running. He bought it used and I have not seen any other 500's like it in this area. It is also the first Case tractor I have owned. I would appreciate any information about the 500 you could give me. I do have a few questions about some parts I need. The battery trays are almost rusted away and unusable also the covers are missing, can these be had anywhere in the aftermarket world? I am also missing the belt pulley, is that specific to the model 500 or will a pulley from other models interchange? Lastly for now is there someone making decal sets for this tractor? Thanks in advance for your help. Loren

Hello and welcome. You will find a lot of very helpful people here. John Saeli at external_link is a great source for parts and info, as Don Livingston at Rusty Acre. I have gotten many parts from both. They also post on this forum

Hello Loren,

By Western, I'm assuming you have a big 500 diesel built from 53-56. If so, you need to be very careful that the diesel fuel injector pump has not seized from sitting so long, as parts for the pump are not easily found. The 500 is a real work horse and the engines were famous for durability and ease of starting. I hope you come to really enjoy yours. Good Luck! Don

Is this perhaps the model you have? CM

If no one has turned the motor over yet I would suggest removing the fuel injection pump 1st to be sure that it turns by hand,do not turn the engine to time the pump, just take it off and check it,real big $$$$ to fix it if its fixable

Don, it is a diesel model like you are referring to. CM it's like the picture you posted except mine has the orange sheet metal as well, mine must be an earlier model, built in the 1953 - 1956 time slot as Don mentioned. I had read about the problems with the American Bosch Injection pumps if they were allowed to set for a time. I removed the pump and took to Central Fuel Injection Service Co. of Estherville Iowa to go through it. Turns out it was stuck, they freed it up and rebuilt it and now it looks like new. I'm glad I didn't try to check if the engine was free before I did that. I grew up with and farmed with Allis-Chalmers equipment always so this is my first venture with J I Case equipment and I'm having fun working on her. J Hamilton and Kenbob thanks for the names, I will contact them. Thanks again Loren

I think the picture CM posted was repainted, flambeau red is the correct color for the whole tractor. Good job reading up on it and pulling the pump off before trying to turn it over. I personally prefer my Case tractors to AC any day. Does yours have power steering?

The 500 is very well thought of. Here is a picture shown on www.tractordata.com Google this site and choose Case and then choose 500. You will see a lot of info about you purchase. Welcome to the forum.
