2-brush versus 3-brush generator

What is the basic difference in circuitry? Want to use the 2N/9N volt reg by Fun Projects; Instructions give procedure for adjusting the 3rd brush. My generator has the 3rd brush adj screw, but no 3rd brush inside. What gives?

Ford issued a modification bulletin for the 3rd brush 8N generator (which was used with a regulator) for the removal of the 3rd brush to increase output. This was NOT a 1-terminal generator. If yours is a 1-terminal generator, then the above does not apply & someone has altered it. Suggest you contact Fun Projects.

jimmy one of the wires only connects to the housing as a ground i believe i might be wrong but that could be why you don't have 3 inside

f he has a 3 brush/single terminal generator , which has been modified to a two brush by removing the adjustable brush AND is using a cut out VS a regulator (can't use standard regulator with only 1 terminal (no field access), then he has no charge current control & would eventually over-charge the battery.
Apparently, Fun Projects has overcome this 'lack of field access' by some yet to be explained means (maybe someday a REAL explanation will come forward), and by the accounts of users, does really regulate.

JMOR.......I believe the "Fun Projects" cut-out replacement to a voltage regulator uses a SCR and V/R diode reference in a "chopper" circuit, using the battery as a BIG FILTER for constant load. ......Dell

It'd be nice if the inventor would just tell us.. when asked point blank he uses alot of doublespeak .. there are at least a handfull of good ways he could be doing it.. but he likes to keep it ultra top hush hush... figures..

I just read Fun Projects Installation instructions & I personally wouldn't throw $70 out there without first talking to John Regan @ Fun Projects, given that your 3rd brush has been removed. It does not sound promising. Be sure & let me know what he tells you.
