2 questions on 801 Ford

1st question -- regarding power steering problem on a 58 801. What is normally the issue when the steering
column travels up and down when the steering wheel is turned???

2nd question -- are gas 801 engines (172) and diesel 801 engines interchangeable?? Friend wants to change
tractor from diesel to gas? Will all the "nuts and bolts" line up with out major changes?

Will be very small movement up/down. Engine will require the cosmetics, throttle linkage, battery box, air cleaner. fuel tank brackets, other misc parts

Steering shaft bearings are shot. There will be no up and down movement if these bearings are in good shape.

Diesel fuel tank has a return port on the bottom. It will have to be plugged or the tank changed.

He'll need deeper pockets for fuel!!! Diesels are very fuel efficient. Gasoline engines in that tractor are not.
