[8n/9n]

I have a ford 8n motor (in a 9N) and after re evaluating my situation I have decided that a 12 volt conversion is in order. What I want to know is what I will need to do about the coil and the electronics in the distributor. Do I need to replace either or both of these things when I instal the conversion kit for the side mount distributor found on this site?

If you have a side mount 8n.. you are almost good to go. There is nothing more than a set of breaker contacts and a condensor int he distrib anyway... no real electronics.. unless someone had dropped in an electronic ignition system.. etc..

After you slap in your 12v charge system and battery.. you can merely swap out the old round can 6v coil for a 12v round can coil.. napa part number IC14SB.

Same points and condensor work just fine..

Well since you have a side mount you can buy a 12 volt coil, on it, it will say no resister needed or some such thing.

I presume you are going from 6v Positive ground to 12v negative ground.
If you have a side mount, remember to change the "polarity" on the coil. The wire from the coil to the distributor should have same sign as the electrical system ground. Your old 6V has a positive ground so the coil to distributor connection was attached to the coil (+) terminal. If you switch to negative ground, you'll need to connect that wire to the (-) terminal on the coil. If you don't, you'll lose about half the spark energy.
