whats proper procedure to adjusting valves and whats correct clearance I have adjusted a few motors in the past but never actually done it by the book so to speak

I do not have the spec. Adjust the intake of each cylinder when its exhaust valve just starts to open. Adjust the exhaust when the intake on that cylinder just closes. Fool proof method. Jim

According to the book, the C113, C123, C135 tappet clearance is .014, engine hot. This is for the A, B, C, SA, SC, U2 and T4/T5 engines. I'd be surprised if it was any different for the 200.

You should check for worn rocker arms. You're not going to get a good setting when using a feeler gauge on worn rocker arms.
If the 200 has an accessible timing mark, turn the crankshaft to TDC. Either the front 3 valves or the rear 3 valves will be loose. Which ever end is loose, adjust the first 3, then every other valve except last 3. Turn the crankshaft 180?, then do the same starting from the other end.

(quoted from post at 05:52:16 04/05/17) . . . Turn the crankshaft 180?, . . .
After adjusting valves 1, 2, 3 ,and 5; turn the crankshaft [b:606efeca58]360[/b:606efeca58] degrees bringing the timing mark back into line. Then adjust valves 4, 6, 7, and 8. Which are 1, 2, 3 ,and 5 from the other end.
