2000 4 cylinder dies under load

2000 4 cylinder gas.

The tractor idles well forever.

After about one minute under load, either mowing or lifting round bales, the tractor sputters and dies. Choking helps for a few seconds.

I cleaned out the gas tank. It is a replacement, so rust is not an issue. The fuel flow is good immediately after the tractor dies.

I have replaced everything except the governor. This has been going on for about one year. I have adjusted the timing. Tweaked the carb backwards and forwards. New plugs, switch, and all electrical parts. New carb, strainers, etc.

I am stumped. Could it be a heat issue? The water pump may be original.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

You mentioned replacing a lot of electrical parts but did not mention if you have spark when it dies.
Next time it dies, pull a plug wire and VERIFY that you have a bright bluish white spark that will junp at least 1/4-3/8"
Only then go on to fuel/air.

never hurts to check spark at death. rules out that issue almost entirely.

I'd be inclinded to think fuel, and not inclined to think gov if it idles fine and you can get some work out of it. Gov's don't heal.
