Hello all I have a 1971 Ford 2000 3cyl gas tractor, it has a Marvel Schebler tsx-813 carburetor on it. I was told by someone it was the wrong carburetor for this tractor,. It has ran with this tractor but I always had to choke it a lot to crank it. I was told it probably had a Holley on it originally. My question is does anyone know how I need to adjust the fuel and air mixture screws, I rebuilt it and forgot the adjustments. Or does anyone have the right used non expensive carb they are willing to part with. Just trying to get the old tractor back running I mainly use it to grade my driveway and it’s getting pretty rutted out . Thanks forks any info

The original carb was a Holley on many of the 3cylinders. I have discovered that you can buy aftermarket carbs off EBAY for a 3000. They perform very well, and are cheap.

Can you describe what you do?
I use vacuum guage purchased from local auto parts. The gauge will have set instructions, tools necessary and examples of issues with engine explain how they are attached it to the intake manifold tune up port. The photo has one installed. If the manifold doesn’t have ,1/8 npt threaded test ports for hose barb , I drill and tap one . Bought a new manifold that didn’t have one so I installed one.
I use this guage to time engines with wear in the drive from crank to distribution advance .
Or high performance cams have less vacuum, so take that into account.
I adjust warm up engine idle (mfg. recommended) screw at low idle to highest vacuum slowly small increments at a time . Also compare at high idle. Return low idle and compare .
This should get you going , other links like this are available for study on line.

I have used timing lights variable timing with painted pen mark references for set up to verification mechanical , advances vacuum operated to mfg. recommendation. Good to have this tool to assist.

I have found doing these test ( leak down ,vacuum , compression) that older tractor engines have more potential life worked hard in field conditions than I originally thought. This avoid costly overhauls for no reason, which gain almost nothing.
Verify before you commit To costly repairs.

UPdraft carbs ALWAYS require a lot of choke, especially when cold.... The ms carb did not come on this engine, but may or may not be jetted properly... The holley was the factory and zenith was a replacement carb.. The chinese wonders actually work fairly well, except you my have to flip the throttle arm from the left side to the right side,, to get it in the correct position on those aftermarket carbs for the ford application. quick and easy though.
