2000 genny

Well, I"ve replaced the VR and the charge light is still on. I
guess now I"ll have to have her, the genny, rebuilt. Thought I
would stay with her for one more season till I can save up
the money to do an alt conversion. Is there anything else
I"ve missed that I should check? Battery is good, VR is new,
wires are ok. I"m planning to have the genny checked when I
take it to the shop...

why not remove the genny and get it checked out first?

harge indicator problems on those are wide spread & some will still be charging OK. Put an analog meter on the battery, note voltage and start & run engine at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle for a few minutes and if that voltage creeps up by about a volt or so, it is in fact charging. Just put tape over the light.

Well, I'm going to have it checked before I let my shop work on it, I was just trying the little things before I go to the trouble of pulling it. I'm also using the tractor while I figure it out. Lot of things to do round here before planting.

I'll have to buy me an analog meter or borrow one,but get
this, I was doing some blade work in the driveway and all at
once the light went out! Go figure??? It has not came back
on since. I will get me a meter however and find out what's
going on. Thanks to everyone who posted, I sure appreciated
the help!

did you motor and full field test the genny before replacing the vreg?

We used to sell the brushes for those generators by the boatload. Could be all it needs.

Thanks, trac1. I sure appreciate it. Dad said it probably needed to be rebuilt. When I pull it I'm going to have it checked before I get it rebuilt, or I may do it myself. I'm going to try and stay with the gen for this season, I'll probably convert to an alt in the off season. Thanks to all you guys for your help, I appreciate ya'll!
