2000 steering column leak

I've had an 8N for years, but just got a 2000 and today I started to get a major leak of fluid from the top of the steering column. I'll dig out the manual tonight, but in the meantime, is there some common problem that would cause this? I assume it's related to the power steering, of which I have virtually no knowledge at this point. Any help would be appreciated.

eal in PS box.

It is the upper seal in the column. Need to pull the tin to get at it replace the lower seal too. Am in my eeer stand but can qost a diagram when I get home. Always mention if you have a 4 cyl 2000 or 3 cyl.

Pretty easy repair. Pull steering wheel, throttle rod (not too difficult), dash panel and pull tin and remove upper steering housing after cleaning it-you want no dirt getting in there. Seal comes out pretty easy and insert with proper size socket with spring and lip facing down. Replace the o-ring at bottom of column and for good measure change the upper bushing. When I did that by the way of the manual,I couldn't get the bushing in all the way so I inserted the upper bushing first in the column and it went in fine. IT manual covers it pretty good. Mine is a 2110 L.C.G. 3 cyl gas but I imagine they are similar.

Posting from your deer stand??? Must be slow this hunting season.

Thanks Ultradog - I used to multi-task when deer hunting as well - read all of Ayn Rand one year. :) This sounds like a problem I can deal with so thanks to all for all the help.

And now that I know 3-cyl vs. 4-cyl is analogous to front mount vs. side mount I'll make sure I note that in the future. Mine is a 3 cylinder.

Yeah, I should have been watching for deer.
7 hours in a stand gets boring though. So a little phone time - texting and surfing helps pass the time.
I took a nice doe this morning. Hunting buddy Mike got a small buck yesterday.

thanks hobo, you do make it look easy - will take me 3 times as long (if I'm lucky) but i'll get it done.

The only thing that will challenge you are pull'n the steering wheel and if those Philips head screws that bolt the sheet metal on put up a fight... I have a set of twist sockets that bite them and win the battle...
