The original subject was "Re: 2010 again".

I recently purchased a 2010 myself.....and I found out that all the forward gears work i have no reverse...it is the type that should have 3 different reverses and not a single one works....I have began to split it myslef but I do need some advice this is my first split..I have already made a stand with some wheels to hold and move bove ends..I took off the top cover for the tranny, the bolts and the lines that I can see that connect to that part of the tranny off..the 4 big bolts on the outside have also been removed....but it just wont budge... did I forget to do something?

I don't normally say this, but ,you really, really need to invest in the JD service manual..it has step by step directions for splitting the tractor and repairing the transmission. The cheaper IT manuals are of no use in what you are attempting to do!! Although not impossible to fix, the 2010 is one of the most challenging tractors to work on and if you do not have the book it's overwhelming. The obvious things to take off are the floor boards, gear shifting rods, the hdy pump shifter shaft on lt side, hdy lines to the rear remotes, spring to the yoke holding the throwout bearing, be sure to catch the throw out bearing as it drops off the shaft when parting the cases, the two bolts holding the rear of the console attached at the lt /rt corners of the front trans case and be sure to pull the remote valve control valve paying particular attention to get the pipes that go between the valve and the top of the front transmission cover. Well that's most of what I can think of, as I said in the beginning you need the book!! I know the cost of the book seems outrageous but its probably the cheapest part of this job LOL. I'm not sure what parts are still available for the transmission, hope the ones you need are, which ever ones are won't be cheap. You will never get back the original price you paid and the cost of the repairs because of the bad reputation they have acquired.

It has been a while since I have split a 2010, and i want to make it longer :),,they are odd to work on to say the least, there is a hydraulic line which you get access to by removing a small cover under the seat area, down inside you will find 2 bolts holding an elbow type fitting, it sounds like you have all the attaching bolts out, but if you go into Deere parts .com and bring the 2010 clutch housing up it may show some thing you are missing, "one" little bolt will keep it together, and some times they are glued tight, I have used a small hydraulic jack in the right spot and popped them open, "only" after I am sure the bolts are all out. As for your trans problem it sounds like the reverse Sychronizer is out, I just hauled a 2520 in that is the same way, but it is much easier to deal with..

As a owner of a 2010 row crop diesel narrow front end since the mid 1980's that it would be better to replace tractor with different model. I have not worked on my transmission execpt for pto and hyd, pump. parts are expensive for this tractor if available. I parked mine. but if you want to fix yours get JD manuel it has good information. or maybe try to find used transmission in salvage yard.
