2010 diesel pistons

If anyone is looking for new pistons for a 2010 diesel, Green Spring Tractor in PA has a source. They are available in standard, 20 over and 40 over. A kit with 4 pistons, pins and retaining clips is approximately $800 plus shipping.

Copy. I've got three diesels plus a gasser. I've had good luck with them. I'm always looking for the higher serial number units, above 67000. I was glad to find a source for new pistons as I've got one torn down for a rebuild and it saved me from scrounging used pistons.

Just curious. What was wrong with your 2010 diesel? My neighbor loves his 2010 gas.
I was employed at JD dealership from '65-'87 when 2010's were sold new & being repaired. Gasoline powered 2010 had better service record than 2010 diesel powered engines. 2010 diesel engine had pre-combustion chambers & glow plugs that gave a lot of problems. Some of diesel's also had a Presto-lite starters that gave their fair share of problems. Both gasoline & diesels still shared the less than desirable hyd system & dry disc braking systems.

I have a friend who has an early 2010 diesel and his was hard to start, but all of mine are 1965 units above serial number 60000. If anyone has a diesel about 67000 and wants to get rid of it, I’m always looking.

It's good to have a guy still using 2010's. For many years I had a 2010LP factory wide front row crop flat deck over 63000 serial and it was a champ.

Personally I think all the issues with the cylinder liners is just internet fodder, a myth, people repeating what they read. There has only been one time - ever - that I have legitimately had to replace cylinder liners. And that was because the owner of the machine left the head off for about 5 years and the cylinders rusted too badly to do anything with. Regarding hydraulic issues, all issues I’ve had to fix resulted from improper maintenance or simply a lack of it. And I have yet to have a PTO related issue. I’m sure other folks have had their own experiences but these have been mine.

If you like JD 2010's that is great for you.

BUT JD 2010 didn't get labeled by accident the sorriest JD tractor ever built!!!!

I'll bet electrolysis will create holes in 2010 engine liners same as other style liners & engine block cylinder walls.

Yep, electrolysis doesn’t really care about brand or model. Replacing liners or blocks on any engine 60 plus years old is absolutely not unusual. So if I have to do it once in 60 years on a 2010, I don’t categorize that tractor as the worst John Deere ever made.

You may not classify 2010 as the worst tractor JD ever built as that task was performed by many other JD 2010 owners besides you. Hole in a cylinder liner from electrolysis wasn't what caused JD 2010 to be classified as the worst JD tractor ever built but was all the other things that failed to operate correctly before tractor was TEN YEARS OLD.

Obviously whoever owned one or still does has the right to feel however they want about it. The ones that I own, however, work as they should. One of the diesels, at 4600 plus hours and no overhaul, still starts in sub-freezing temperatures with nothing more than 30 seconds on the glow plugs. In any case, there might be a few folks who can’t fix or even work on their new Deeres without a laptop who might disagree with the “2010 worst ever” classification.
