2010 JD running HOT

I am looking at a John Deere 2010 Diesel narrow front. I am not sure of the year as I havnt seen it in person yet. He wants $1,700.00 for it (Im hoping is a good price)for it. The problem the owner says it has is he ran it hot about a year and a half ago, and hasn't used it since. He says now though when you crank it up and drive around for no more than say 5 minutes the coolant in the radiator is boiling out and its running hot. What could be the problem?

Very possible the radiator needed cleaned while he was using it, he might have been using it while it was running hot and blew a head gasket if you are lucky, worst case is it got hot enough to crack the head. That would explain why it runs hot real quick. But it could have sat long enough the water pump seals failed from being dry? I would atleast remove the radiator cap and make sure there is circulation, while the engine is cold of course. It"s just not good when the engine overheats that quick...

Thank you for checking with us before purchasing the 2010. Instead of coming to us after purchasing the 2010 with a tale of woe.
As previously stated, run away.
The 2010 tractor only only good for being painted and parked in a collectors shed between a 1010 and a 2510.
2010s make a decent boat anchor too.

Take a deep breath with a brown paper sack clamped tightly over your mouth & nose. Derek stated he was looking at a 2010 for possible purchase!!!!!!!!

there is nothing wrong with a 2510. I have one and is a very good tractor. They have nothing in common with a 2010. They came out after the 3020 and 4020, in 1966 I think. They have the same engine as the 2020.

What are you talking about?
The 2510/2520 was in no way being slammed. In fact Deere would have been better off never building a Waterloo powered 3020 chassis. And just installed the Dubuque 300 series .
Ever look at today's Deeres and see how many are powered with decends of the three , four and six cylinder 2520 Dubuque engines . Right up into the 7000 series tractors.

I guess I interpreted it wrong. when you said the 2010 should be displayed between a 1010 and a 2510. I'm sorry, as long as we're on the same page. Actually a 1010 gas isn't a real bad tractor. I have had 3 and my uncle bought one new in 1962 and still has it. It's been good. I think the diesel engine didn't work as good with that sleeve/head gasket design because of the extra compression.
