2020 JD - checking hydraulic system

short answer is no i quit sure b&d well be on here to give you a lecture on manuals so to save him time and finger work i well refer you to the post under 310b and do have a nice day

You, and b&d, are correct on saying one should have the manuals. Operator's manual for normal maintenance items and Service manual for in depth repairs.

As far as "Should the engine be running when checking the hydraulic system?" My answer is a bit longer, as what hydraulic system check is being asked about is not specified. It depends on which hydraulic system check you are asking about. When checking the level in a reservoir, normally not (operator's manual should cover this). If checking system pressures and functions, it has to be running (service manual should cover this). (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

IIRC JD 2020 hyd oil was supposed to be checked with engine idling with nut on dipstick resting on threads of nipple. I looked in 2040 tech manual but I didn't locate where it confirmed that.

I don't have a 2020 manual so won't say this is right or wrong for that tractor but here is a scan of the info form the 2030 Operator's manual on checking the 2030 hydraulic/transmission reservoir level. The 2030 is supposed to be at slow idle. And of course the reference to 303 no longer applies.

JD 2020 and 2030 tractors are the same. Engine running; rocker shaft down; park; clutch pedal
engaged...Dip-stick out, wiped, sit on top of threads...
