2020D pullout engine

I am hoping to find an engine for my 2020.. My block has side damage from the number 1 rod trying to come through behind the injector pump. Dad has little brother braze and patch the hole 15 years ago.
Now I'm getting antifreeze in the oil, and am somewhat concerned about the block...
I have checked with a couple of salvage yards and they are very PROUD of their bare blocks. Asking $2500 for them...

There are alot of those engines around. They were used in air compressors, generator sets,pumps, backhoes etc. You may have to switch some parts from the old engine on to it. Should be able to find a running engine for $1500.

Just pull the oil pan and then pressurize the coolant system. I would bet that you just have a oring on a sleeve leaking. IF it is you will need to pull the head and pull the sleeves. Put in a new set of rings, bearing ,grind the valves and run her for another 5000 hrs.

Yep, sleeve cavitation is the mother of all evil when it comes to coolant in the oil. Keeping water treatment in the system is a must. I've seen lots of blocks patched in that area and usually the worst leak you get is a little oil slobber down the outside of the engine. We had that happen on a 2510 once years ago, but we stretched her out and put a 303 engine out of a 95 combine in. Mainly just to watch the neighbors stare.

It's a common engine and many used in 450 crawlers, 440 skidders, 480 forklifts, power units, and many farm tractors.

Why not just fix it? Chances are - all you need is a rebuild. If you have an early engine with single-seal sleeves -they are prone to leaking if still original. Deere fixed the problem with sleeve upgrade kits that use three seals per sleeve.
