2030 electrical problem

My Deere 2030 stopped. It is definitely electrical. New starter didn’t work. I suspect it is the alternator. A “mechanic “ was replacing a clutch and noticed a voltage drop coming from the alternator. He installed a new 3 lead alternator and ran it to a new switch on the dash. It was fuse protected and the fuse blew. I can’t follow how he wired it. Two leads are on the + side of the battery and one lead goes from the start switch to the alternator. There are two wires coming from the alternator side to the solenoid. Any ideas where there may be a problem or where to start looking?

What is the full serial number of your 2030? There are the older Dubuque built ones and later Mannhiem built ones. They had different electrical components and wiring diagrams.

Post pictures of the alternator so we can figure out what he put on it for an alternator. Several brands and models used 3 wires. can you also post pictures of the old alternator.

Factory wiring would not have needed an added switch even if the alternator was changed. Your wiring description leaves a lot to the imagination and does not sound like it follows any JD wiring diagram. If you are looking at it and can't figure it out; where does that leave us, we can't see it

Can you make a sketch of the wiring to go with the pictures?

This is a Mannheim tractor. I should have mentioned it. The tractor is at our other farm. It will be several weeks before we go back. I will take pictures and repost. The original alternator was not returned to me.

So right now, we don't know if he replaced the original alternator in kind or put something different for an alternator on it. We do know he "re-invented" the wiring to the alternator from your description.

I don't see being able to help you until you are at the tractor and can provide the info needed to sort out what he did.

Do you have the 2030 Technical Manual for your tractor? The TM1051 that I have has wiring diagrams for the North American and Mannheim 2030s. I am guessing that manual will work on your 2030, but I can't say for 100% certain. There is a different TM for the European 1830s and 2030s. The manual has wiring diagrams which may help correct his wiring to something close to factory with a bit of work.

Thanks. I am trying to find a single lead alternator to just bypass everything. It may not solve my problem but it may be a work around.
