2030 for $6K?

Just looking for thoughts - this morning I saw a 1975 2030 for sale, about 3000 hours (or was is 3900?) - asking $6000. Assuming it runs OK is that even in the ballpark for a good deal?

You can buy those for 6000 with a loader, but that's very low hours. If it's a sharp tractor with the correct hours it's worth it.

Not only is it virtually impossible for a 1975 tractor to have only 3,000 original hours, it is probably not good if it does. Low hours on a 35 year old tractor can indicate a troubled life. "They don't accumulate many hours on the tach scattered all over the floor of the repair shop". Low hours, if truly the result of very light use, are also not such a good thing. A tractor that gets fired up sometimes as infrequently as a few times a year has lots of opportunity for internal corrosion and other problems to develop.

But let's assume the 95% chance that the hours are not correct: What does $6,000 buy you in a comparable tractor? My guess is that $6K is a little high, but you'll have to judge that yourself.

$6000 now and $6000 over the next year or two.
Now you have a 35+ year old tractor and are in 1/2 the price of a new tractor. With zero hours, full warrenty, better fuel efficiency, rops and all new gaskets, seals, bearings electrical.

The hours may be correct. My grandpa had a 1961 660 Oliver with about 1950 original hours. He used to plow snow with it until he passed away. It still has the original paint on it. He bought it almost new in 1965.

I have a 2030 in the shop that a guy just bought off of an old farmer, it has 4600 hrs. on it true hours,,it's in great shape it came to me to be sure there was no brake metal in the filters and to change the oil to be "sure' it had Deere oil in it, it appears to be in great shape. There is a 4960 setting north of me 20 miles that has been setting in the same spot since it was unloaded off the truck brand new, never been started or moved since 1992, the guy won't sell it , and the bushes are growing up around it, I wonder about what shape it's in on the inside..this guy also has a few "brand new" massey Harris tractors that his Grandfather kept from when he was a dealer...

Have you gotten up the courage to tell to your wife that since you're trying to convince future tractor purchasers to buy a NEW JD that she should give you permission to trade in your "OLD tractors" and buy a "NEW JD"also instead of the kitchen remodeling?????????? You need to practice what you preach!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It will only be "too late" after you've left this world. It appears to me that you would want the thrill of driving a brand new trouble free JD MFWD that you keep trying to persuade other people to get. Just think how much easier it would be to move snow!!!!!!!!

Go ahead and admit it that Mrs b&d won't let you.[/quote]

Yes I'm p*ssy whipped by Mrs B&D
