2130 load control shaft seals

mad hatter

I have what may sound like a stupid question but I'm gonna ask anyway. I have a 2130(later model). And I have a leak at the load control shaft. I went to the JD dealer and since I had not taken it apart yet he sold me two different sets of seals (both very reasonable, and I live and hour away). I got home and took the arms off and there was a large flat washer next to the tractor on one side and a shim washer similar to a valve spring shim on the there side next to the tractor on the other. The bushings are flush to the outside of the trans case and do not appear to have any seal inside them. My book shows the seals to go between the arm and bushing and also shows an O-ring. Somewhere I thought I had read that the seal had been redesigned and it only uses the one seal now but I am not sure. Is that correct? Does this seal just go between the bushing and the control arm? It does have the sleeve on the shaft so wont it leak through the split in the sleeve? Is there another peice supposed to go in between the bushing and the control arm. Or is this totaly screwed up?

Your not thinking this out well,,,the seal would be eat up in a minute between the washers,,,the seal goes inside, in the bushing,,take a pick and fish around in there you'll see it,,the shims are needed to keep the shaft side to side play out,, the slamming back and forth action is what kills the seals.

Did a 2020 a while back yours should be similar. The seal is inside the bushing. I drove the shaft far enough in to pry the seal out with a small screwdriver. Once the seal is out you remove the o-ring. replace with new parts and tap shaft the other way to do the other side. I dressed shaft with file to remove any burrs. Shims are to keep shaft from sliding side to side and ruining seal. My book said to put load-control? lever in down position before removing shaft. You also need to drain rear end/trans oil. It took longer to drain and refill oil than replace the seals. Hope this helps

Do you have purple seals, check the seal on the shaft and see if it fits..I had to order new shaft and bushings to use new style seals..

I do have the purple seals (L33864). But they dont fit tight on the shaft. I have the shaft with the bushings on them, and it is tapered in the middle. Will these compress to fit the shaft or are they the wrong ones? If I pull the shaft will it go back in? Or will I have to tear it apart more to get the lever back to where it needs to be to ride on the shaft? I know these Q's may sound simple but the latest model tractor I have had before this one was a 49 farmall. So I am having to learn as I go here.
When I try to check the part# online I keep coming up with invalid part#. If I knew for sure what the # was I would just order them online and save an hour trip one way. But I do appreciate the information and help I have recieved here. One other thing. Will the new seal be one piece or two as the original?

There are two size shafts one is 25mm and the other is 28mm...make sure that you have larger shaft for purple seals.. if not and you have an o ring and white seal and I don't know if they sell them or not

Thanks I will measure them. I have a thick white seal(L170667)that they sold me too. But no O-ring. I guess just a regular O-ring from the Auto Parts would work if I get it out. I just would like to have all the correct parts before I start this. It seems to be a pretty good old tractor. Just have 3 oil leaks and it is too expensive to let run out on the ground. Plus I am changing the hydraulic oil/filter while I am at it.

cannonball[/quote] had to order new shaft and bushings to use new style seals.

May I ask what one needs to do to make draft arms fit a larger shaft if tractor had smaller holes in swivel balls? Thanks,Jim
