I broke the top of the needle lift shaft off last year. had a new Ear manufactured and put it all together . when i turn the flywheel. the needles dont trip the safety stop but they come up past the twisters s few inches thru plate on back. i cant find a video or diagram showing how far they should come up. I have never adjusted thew shaft and it seems thast would adjust the height of the needles but i need some specs on where they come to,
thanks

The Operator's manual will have the info you need, I believe. You can download a free copy and save of the Operator's Manual from the John Deere Ag& Turf Bookstore. Here is a link.

JD Ag and Turf Bookstore

Click on Equipment Publications. Enter 214 in the model box. Click on 214WS when the dropdown list appears. It should open a list of the publications available for the 214WS. You will see the Operator's Manual (OM19134) to the right of it are two icons. The View Online is the box with an arrow in it. Click on the download icon (arrow with a line under it). That will download a free copy of the manual to your device which you can save in your files, then you can print from it if and when you want.

Needle height on JD wire tie balers is determined under bale case not needle height in tying system. Needle frame/needles need to be adjusted so wire is just barely above needle roller when needles are in home position. Using this method allows wire to pull straight though wire guides on each side of needles so needle roller remains under the wire until needles leave home position. When needles are in tying system needle needs to be adjusted to be within 1/8'' from twister shaft & farther enough away from nose of gripper so there's no contact.
