I"ve got a 1980 2140 , same as US 2750. Had it for 9 years , it"s done 12,000 hours . Its had an in frame overhaul , pistons ,liners ,big end shells , head skim , injectors. It has also had a complete hydraulic system overhaul , all the hydraulic brakes/clutches were cheked overhauled . Its like a new tractor and needs to work like one .
Only thing I haven"t touched yet is the CAV DPA injector pump . The tractor smokes a bit at low revs , and doesn"t come alive until over 1600 rpms , but doesn"t have that much power . Looking for advice on whether I should overhaul existing pump , and get it tweaked a bit , or change pump for one off a newer model ( we used to have a 1991 2850 , which dynoed at 90 pto from factory ).
It appears that the standard turbo is a bit big for the engine , the A/R ratio a bit high , any thoughts on getting the tractor to perform a bit better? Oh and please don"t suggest changing it for a more modern tractor , that"s not going to happen in my lifetime , just want the tractor work 15 to 20% harder. Thanks in advance .

Thanks B and D , I was expecting something along those lines . I'm not changing the tractor . No its not been dynoed , but comparing its performance on some implements to other tractors then its not much more powerful than our 2040 model ( non turbo version of same tractor ). And a long way behind a 2850 . Maybe I'll get it dynoed . If its 75hp or less then I'll get the pump overhauled , and ask for advice elsewhere.

I have done a lot of ajusting on these pumps in the past to get the engine to "perk up". You can do the following untill you get pump overhauled.
1- Advance static timing 2 degrees. Make a scratch mark between pump and mounting plate, then move top of pump in to seperate marks about the width of a dime.
2- Remove advance plug, (facing out at bottom of pump) using 15/16 th hex socket. Remove some of the shims in plug totaling about 20 to 30 thou. (Use a magnet or tap hard on steel bench)
3- remove pump cover. Relocate gov. spring from middle hole to bottom hole.
4- And finally, ajust roller to roller dim. for extra fuel delivery.
Reajust engine speed.
Note: I always did a before and after test on dyno and had staggering improvements in performance. I have found that these ajustments outperform rebuilt pumps. The only cost is a new cover gasket. Part #T24600. Hope you find this info helpfull. Hint. position new gasket in place before relocating gov. spring to lower hole.
