2155 Hydraulic Pump Coupling Rubber Piece

Well, I went to change the fan belt and a few hoses on this tractor, and decided to replace the rubber “carrier” for the hydraulic pump coupler since I had it apart. Boy what a job just to replace a belt. Anyway, I cleaned both surfaces and put it back together with the new rubber, and used a small pry bar to push the coupling halves back together to seat the rubber “carrier”and then tightened the pinch bolt on the pump shaft. If I didn’t push it together, it would have a little bit of a gap between the rubber and the coupler on each side. Reading the technical manual for this tractor, it says “Important: There must be no axial tension in the pump drive”. I thought I knew what that meant, but Googled it anyway. That is a tension force in the direction of the crankshaft. Now, I don’t see how there could be any axial tension with the design of this, only a compression force. I imagine too much compression force could put an excessive thrust load on the pump bearing, but what is this technical manual trying to tell me?

If pump drive moved freely on pump shaft when you put coupler back together I don't see an issue.
