2155 John Deere temperature gauge

My 2155 JD temp gauge will show over heating but the tractor is not getting hot. I bought this tractor about 6 years ago and previous owner told me of this. the needle will go from
cold to past the red as the tractor warms up. I just ignore it but I am afraid that some day the tractor really will get hot. The temperature gauge is in the main gauge cluster.
Any ideas? I think I remember the previous owner saying the sending unit had been replaced with no effect on problem.

It can only be two things, - the gauge or the sending unit being compromised. Of course, - you should make sure it's not actually overheating. Remove the side screens and make sure the screens and radiator are clean. Clean the radiator with a powerwasher from the fan side through forward. I've seen radiators look perfectly clean on the outside but the internal core is full of dirt. Sometimes some oil will make its way onto the radiator front from the hydraulic pump or lines, etc and cause dirt and dust to stick there. This is a no-no with a 2155 as they're pretty sensitive to a dirty radiator. Have you changed out your coolant lately? Every detail counts.

Clean & tighten wiring harness ground connection near instrument cluster. There are 2 different coolant temp sensors listed & I wonder if previous owner installed correct one?

My 2155 and 2555 always seemed to do what you're saying. My problem was usually the plug through the firewall would lose contact and read the wrong resistance. usually jump around the plug and see a difference.
