2240 John Deere

[Doc in WV]

Guys New to this site usually hang around on Ford Forum as I currently own one. Looking for advice on a 2240 with around 2000 hrs. I don't know year yet. Pros. and Cons.? What to watch for?

They are good tractors, but the hours seem low for a tractor this old. Check for all of the usual things, play in the steering, drawbar wear/3 point hitch wear, etc.
Make sure all of the hydraulics work properly. The PTO even runs off of a hydraulic pump.
These trctors can be expensive to repair if there is a lot wrong with it.
Fuel consumption will be low. The tractor was built in Germany if this matters to you.

The pto only is enguaged by hyd on tractors with independent pto. Most 2040 and 2240 tractors came with a two stage clutch.They are very simple tractors and cost no more to work on than any other deere.Dad had three brand new 2040's.If the hyd system has not been maintained or if water has gotten into hyd. you can have problems.
