2255 3pt question

I recently purchased a nice 2255. But, the 3pt won't go down. I have the shop manual, which makes me think the problem is in the "selvo valve". I have removed the seat and the cover on the control levers. But, before I take the top off the hydaulic reservor I'm asking anyone to respond with other possible problems that may be causing the problem. Maybe there is a more simple problem that should be investigated? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i have seen the lift cylinders rust on the inside of them so they wont go down i would undo the hoses and see if it will go down

ours doesn't get much use sometime we have to put a little wieght on it(slight tug of a chain) just to get it started then it's fine.It seems like seals get stuck to the bores a little or something

Thanks for those who sent me input.

I removed the selvo valve, thoroughly cleaned and lubricated the valves so they worked freely. What I found was the pressure regulator had been pulled out by someone, then tightened back in with pressure against the piston that regulates the check valve. So, the piston would not work as it should. No wonder the 3 pt wouldn't work. It sure didn't hurt to change the hydrulic oil and filter while I was at the job. The three point lowers and raises as it should now.

I had an issue with the hydraulic PTO valve that I solved a couple of months ago. The PTO wouldn't stay engaged. So, I took the valve assembly apart and found the spring that is to hold the ball in place was missing. After getting the correct spring installed, the PTO works great. I don't know what some owners think they are doing when they take on some mechanical work on these tractors and apparently don't have the shop manual.
