Found a 2290 for sale with an 8-speed instead of PS. Other than being simpler and arguably more reliable, what are some pros and cons to this transmission? I see there's a high and low range. Does that work like a T/A with on-the-go shifting? Or are you in that gear until you stop and switch? I've read that they can be difficult to shift gears at times and may get stuck in 2 gears. Is that an external issue than can be fixed with adjustment and linkage repair? Thank you for your thoughts.

I've got one. Parts for the rear end are very hard to find. The gear spacing is nothing like a power shift. A very cool tractor but would rather have a power shift for farming. Mine just pulls a 15 foot batwing.

I have had a 1170 8 spd for 43 years...bulletproof if you use common sense. No power shift or t/a. 8 straight cut gears that don't like to be shifted on the move, no synchros. I have not spent any money on the trans., one overhaul and one clutch. Wish the 2290 8 spd was close as I would buy it.
