2294 information

Found a 2294 this weekend at a local dealership with just under 6000 hours, 3 speed power shift in average to above average condition. Possibly going to test drive it tommorow, anything in particular to look out for on these tractors. We have a few older cases, 970, 1370, 4890. Somewhat familiar with them, didn't know on the 94 series anything they had problems with. Salesman didn't think engine had been opened up, and I havent heard it run yet, just talked over the phone on it. $16,000 bottom price and would include filter and oil change on engine and transmission. Thanks for any help or information.

There isn"t a whole lot different as far as weak spots go than the 70 series you are familiar with, the major difference is that the 94 series is electronically shifted. The circuit board that controls the shifts will occasionally fail, they cost about 300 apiece right now and are something that you can replace yourself. I"ve found that "feathering" the clutch can be a little more difficult on electronically shifted than the older tractors. I have two 2294"s and a 2096 which is basically the same other than the CDC engine so if you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

Seems right money wise, seems up here they bring about $4,000 more than that for a below average to average tractor with 8,000+ hrs on it. So to me it seems people know that they are reliable so they ask more for them. If the tires are good it sounds like a great deal. Basically just check the powershift out like you would your own tractors. Check the diff lock switch, we have had issues with them getting gummed up, and check to see the dash is all functional with the digital readouts. Good luck to you, and post some pics! You will enjoy it!

Thanks for the information, it would mainly be used to run a baler, haybine, and that type of work. I talked with one of the guys at the local salvage yard while getting some planter parts this afternoon, and he seemed to think the electronic shifted tractors were better than the early ones because you no longer had shift cables that would get out of adjustment. He said to stay away from the six speed power shift ones, they are more problamatic and and difficult to get parts for. He also mentioned something about if the 3 point gets out of adjustment and lifts too high it can destroy the whole lift housing.

I know your not suppose to run in reverse long when pto is engaged, but does holding the clutch in, while powershift is in 1, while tying bales cause any damage. I thought i read somewhere on here you should put transmission in nuetral to tie a bale and have the clutch out. It only takes about a minute to tie a bale, I would think, leaving it in gear while doing this wouldn't be a problem. Thanks again for the reply and information.

Thanks for the reply and information. This tractor is only 2wd and almost 30 years old, so I thought the price was a bit high, but looking on tract r house and a few other places, I guess that is where they are priced. I was a little worried the engine and powershift may be getting to the point that it needs an overhaul, but won't know its condition until I drive it. It is on tract or house, I wasnt able to copy the picture to post it on here. The decals are weathered, but tractor is not all beat up and rear tires are good, front tires not real good. It would mostly be used for haying, and not for heavy tillage. Thanks for the information and reply.

Our 2094 went over 10000hrs for an engine overhaul, we have a 2594 with over 7000 hrs never touched and a 3294 I believe has never been touched. If maintained they last for a long time. The 2094 has been split twice I believe but not for powershift issues.

94 Series has a much better torque limiter set up. Hours don't really have that much bearing on the life of the powershift. Its more how they were driven and taken care of. 94 series use a electronic tach so they show a real hour for every hour the key is on where the older ones show a hour for every hour at rated engine speed. Thats why the engines seem to last longer in the newer tractors. They actually don't its just kind of a illusion of sorts.

Drove the tractor this afternoon and was dissapointed with it. Quite a bit of blow by out of the side pipe down below and a lot of blow by out of dipstick when removed. Ac not working, range gears shifted very hard compared to the cases we have, don't know if its just the cables or if there are other issues. Had some whitish blue smoke when started and until it warmed up. They won't give on the price, but will fix the ac for the 16,000. Rear tires a bit rougher than i thought also. Run down the road nice and and power shift shifted solid but was a bit more jerky than I thought it would be. I think I will pass on the machine, but thanks for all the advice and information.

I have a 2294 mfd and in the process of overhauling it now, 8200 hours and alot of blow by. Its my TMR tractor so it runs everyday. When the mechanic opened it up it had a cracked ring on every piston. The person that owned before me must have got it hot at one time. If it has alot of blow by, plan on overhauling it.
