230 repaint question

Been working on fixing up our 230 that my grandpa bought in the 60's. For as long as I can remember its been the rust and faded yellow color. Getting ready to paint it and have a question about the white on the side of the hood. Every picture I see has a recessed hood where it is painted where ours is completely smooth. Is this something some guys do as an added touch? And also if someone could get me rough measurements on what size and location it's supposed to be would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Allen

I don't remember seeing a 230 up close, if you google 230 Farmall you'll find gobs of pictures.

Yup that 230 is the same as every picture I've found online however ours is a completely smooth hood no recess. I'll try to get a pic up of it.

The tractor serial number is 1289 I had thought about it being a different hood from an earlier tractor. It has the 230 emblems and has had for a while

Please post a picture as this seems odd. Sounds like a hood from a 140/240 and either drilled to accomodate emblems, or decals (that replaced emblems as a factory part) were used. Similar to what is on this Farmall 200 (it has an earlier C/A hood).

Can you take a picture that shows the whole side of the hood so we know what you have. Definitely looks like a 140/240 hood from what you've shown but with the holes drilled for the emblems.

currently have I can get a different
one later on tonight.

Definitely a 140/240 hood that has been retrofitted for use with the stainless emblems. Having that it's tough to find the correct one for yours I would keep what you have and mask off a section and paint it white. No one will ever notice you don't have the recessed part.

I never noticed prior to this when I
was looking at pictures online about
where to paint and everyone I saw had a
recess in it. That's my plan to tape
off the block when I do the red. Makes
me wonder what happened back in the
day. Thanks for all the info guys!

Here is a picture of the tractor getting it cleaned up a few weeks ago with the hood still on and the tractor in all its faded glory.
