At the rear of my 231 is a T shaped bracket. The bottom of the T is pinned to the bracket that is around the PTO. The top bar of the 3-point is pinned to one side of the T top and at the other side of the T top is pinned a pistion that enters a cylinder and goes under the seat.
What is this piston/cylinder for?

David,
Since you were so kind to resond to this, can you help with a problem that I can't seem get advice I understand? The lift bars just suddenly quit lifting recently. It's a 10 year 1000 hour 231. I am an engine rebuilder but never tackled such an tough looking thing like the rear end of a tractor. I would open it up but looks like I could get in trouble. I have a shop and all the tools, just don't know where to begin.
