24 volt on a 755a

Anyone know if you could run 24 volt on a 755a system or would that burn the wiring harness out a long with the starter? I’ve always had slow cranking with this in the winter. I’ve had two good batteries on this. Just wondering if these could have been run in 24 volts anyway

Look at series parrelel switch. Everything stays 12 volt except to start. Semis used them once upon a time. .

You could get a series parallel switch and wire it up such that it only uses 24 volts for the starter and remains 12-volts otherwise. They were used on a number of heavy-duty trucks, operate and charge with 12, start with 24.

By the time you do all that you will likely be well on the way to just buying a new high torque starter and not adding more possible maintenance issues. I say that as the switch will likely be in the $150 range, plus more battery cables and wiring, even if you don't want to count anything for your time.

Don't even consider 24 volts!!

You either have a worn starter and/or high resistance in your cables. Some voltage drop testing would quickly pinpoint the cause.
