2440 steering

I have a 2440 with excess play in steering. All linkages and pivots including tie rod ends are in good shape. During this one half of free steering wheel movement i notice that the steering wheel moves up and down. thanks to anyone that can direct me to the problem.

A slight up/down movement while turning steering wheel is normal. Have you checked the bellcrank in the center of frt axle for failed bearings(parts key 3)? Another place to look for wear is to pop off the rear round cover on LH side of clutch housing to determine if steering arm is loose on the tapered splined shaft.

Thanks for the response, I failed to mention that I had indeed checked for any loosenes in both these areas]. There seems to be no noticeable movement anywhere during this "free movement" of the steering wheel.

Pop out cap in LH bell housing.
Check for bolt tightness. Arm is
on tapered spline.
Normally play is in front drag link.
