2444 hydraulic fluid capacity

I am really confused about the hydraulic fluid on my 2444. The lift box seems to drain into the differential. So I am worried that in order to fill the lift box I will over fill the gear box/transmission and the oil will start coming out of the transmission vent. What am I missing here?? I have already pored about 15 gallons of fluid into the tractor and the lift box is still empty. I am 100% sure it is not leaking out as it is parked on a clean concrete floor.

The amount of oil in the transmission varies depending on what equipment is installed. A tractor without draft control or front mounted pump needs 5 gallons. If a front mounted pump is used without draft control 14 gallons are required. If you have both front mounted pump and draft control the amount needed is 17 gallons. The other three gallons stay in the hydraulic reservoir. Tractors using 5 gallons can be checked by the level plug on the side of the transmission housing. All others are checked by measuring down six inches from the top of the transmission fill hole.

If the tractor has a front mounted pump the bottom plate on the hydraulic housing has been changed so that oil is drawn out of the transmission through, the auxiliary filter, to the front pump. Oil is returned to the hydraulic reservoir and then flows through a stand pipe back into the transmission. Because of the stand pipe you will not be able to fill the reservoir to the bottom of the fill plug opening as the book states.

This is exactly what I have. So that means that the transission will have to be filled all the way up to the top correct? If so I gues that explains why I need somewhere between 15 and 20 gallons of fluid. I am still a little worried that fluid will come out of the vent on the top of the transmission shift plate??

The vent plug next to the shift lever is the transmission fill plug. The correct oil level is six inches down from the top of this hole.
