2444 with loader (stuck clutch)

Just got the tractor running after sitting for a long long time. and the clutch is very stuck. How should I go about doing this? I have another tractor capable of towing the 2444, should I just tow it around in 4th gear until it pops loose? I have never dealt with this issue before so any info/tips is greatly appreciated!

I am not familiar with a 2444 but looking at the IH parts page it doesn?t look like you have any access to the back side of the flywheel where the clutch is. So here is what I would recommend. Now as a disclaimer this could be potentially dangerous if you don?t keep your wits about you while doing it. To do this make sure the tractor has a reliable way to be shut off and make sure the brakes work. Block or tie the clutch pedal down. Now only try this if you have an open area where you can drive the tractor around. You will be putting the tractor in gear and then starting it. If you feel comfortable with shifting on the go start in a lower gear and shift it up to higher gear working the throttle, say one you are moving 5-8 mph. With the tractor at about 3/4 throttle brake hard with both brakes, repeatedly if needed. If that didn?t work try sharply apply one of the brakes and be prepared for the turning reaction of the tractor to turn. Try alternating one side to the other. If still no luck staying at 3/4 throttle try raising and lowering the throttle rapidly as to create a twisting shock with the slack in the drive train. Now make sure you are aware while doing this the only ways to stop the tractor are to shut the engine off, jerk the gearshift to neutral or kill it by braking hard. Since access to the clutch appears to be very limited as far as I know if these methods don?t work splitting the tractor is the only other option.

There is an inspection plate on the bottom of the clutch housing that you can remove to look to see if the clutch fingers are good.

Since it is a 2444, it may not have the two stage clutch if there is no PTO installed.

See link for photo of two stage clutch looking thru the inspection hole.
444 Clutch

On my B414 the clutch was stuck when i got it. I found the access cover on the bottom of the clutch housing and removed it to have a great look of the two stage clutch. I was able to free mine up with a long metal rod and picked and pulled on the most forward clutch disc. I did get it freed up and now works great
