My 2510 jd alt. was checked at a shop and it is fine. the top wire goes to the key switch , the bottom wire and the wire on the bolt behind the alt. are tighted together. Is this right? Idiot light will not go off alt belt is tight. Thanks

I don't know if you have the original Motorola or a later Delco of some sort. Either way - the "idiot light" only comes on when there is current flow. When the key is on, but alternator not turning - there is power on side of the bulb, and ground on the other (alt side). But, once the alternator starts charging - the current becomes equal on both sides of the bulb - and subsequently it goes out because no current is flowing. So - if your light is on - you've got a problem on one end or the other. Check it with a voltmeter. Most likely, you'll find the problem on the alternator side - regardless of what the alternator/regulator experts told you.

I have a 2510 and it does the same thing. It has done this for months and I haven"t had a problem, so I just keep on working.
