I have a JD 2510 with a 540 rpm PTO shaft.
I know that the later series JD tractors can switch the pto shafts in about 5 minutes.

What would it take to put a 1000 rpm PTO shaft on my 2510?

Thanks

Your tractor should be ready for 1000 RPM. As far as I know, 2510's were avalible with 1000 RPM PTO only or 540/1000. 540 only was not an option. Look at the rear of your tractor, right above the PTO, you should see the 1000 RPM stub shaft in the storage location, held in with a snap ring. If for some reason your 1000 RPM stub shaft is missing, you can get one from a salvage yard or your Deere dealer. Remove the 1000 RPM shaft from the storage loction. To remove the 540 stub shaft, remove the snap ring, and quickly pull it out and insert the 1000 RPM shaft to avoid losing too much oil. Running the nose of the tractor downhill also helps. Reinstall the snap ring to hold in the 1000 RPM shaft, and install the 540 shaft in the storge location.

well I dont know if they made different setups or not but on our 2510,you remove the 540 shaft and install the 1000 shaft. It is stored just above and at right angle to the pto shaft

The same. You should have a 1000 RPM shaft stored in the rear of the transmission case.
