Now that my very nice 2520 is retired from field/row crop work, and relegated to bush hog tractor, I consider letting it go for something which sits lower. I found a nice looking 2355 for $21900. They will allow me $12500 for my 2520. I'm not going to pay that difference. What do y'all think I could realistically get for my 2520?

Maybe this is the old dealer trick of overpricing their merchandise and then giving a seemingly good trade price.
Go on TractorHouse or sites like it to get an idea of what both tractors might be worth considering hours and overall condition.
My gut feeling is that the price difference is too much.

No comparison of comfort on a hot Summer day mowing with a JD 2520 vs straddling the heat emitting trans case of a JD 2355. Then if 2355 has a horizontal muffler the ambient temperature for operator goes UP. Not to mention 2520 operator is higher up out of dust vs a utility tractor.
I think these 2 tractor values should be near even with 2520 being in the lead if there is a difference

A couple of ways to try to get more money. Take it to Martin's auction yard and be aware of any fees involved such as what if you bid it back. Yeah, the next auction is not until March but that place will be loaded with gotta have it bidders. Second would be put your own price on it and offer financing. This is what the neighbor did to help get the price he wanted on his equipment. It helps if you are a people person plus don't mind chasing others for money. I'd say to get past 14-15 thousand your tractor would have to be under 4000 hours and original. If I remember you said this was originally a gas tractor converted over to a diesel with a replacement engine. That 2355 would have to be very low houred (under 2000) to be worth that kind of money but prices are bat crap crazy right now. I'm looking at a couple of things but am just about ready to throw my hands up in the air over prices. But I need to expense some equipment for taxes.

No way on earth I'd let a 2520 go, I'd figure out a way to make it lower & keep all the original parts.

Why don't you go to your John Deere dealer and buy a set of steps like these on my 4020 and just keep your 2520 instead? Makes it real easy to get on and off and a little exercise is good for a person. The 2520 is a great tractor and I think you'll have regrets if you trade.

This the route I would tend to go but some jobs such as mowing under trees are better if a utility tractor is handy. A neighbor years ago kept his heifers in a two story barn that could only be cleaned using a utility tractor. He bought equipment based on the size of his shed doors.

Can't comment on the 2520 VS 2355...

Had a 2355 two wheel drive canopy tractor on a farm I ran for a few years. It was a good utility tractor and we used it primarily for mowing. Had a 6 foot brush hog on the back and ran a rear mount sickle bar mower ( 9 foot) for under fruit trees. Had very few issues with the tractor and for it's size and power it was a real good fit for mowing. It was pretty easy on fuel and parts were always readily available. Overall I really liked the tractor and wouldn't hesitate to own one.
