260 J.D. disc mower

I had some bad luck today the gear box on mine broke, is their any salvage yards for these old disc mowers?

BTDT! I was lucky in that a friend had one from a scrapped mower! Broke mine by reversing to re-set the breakaway, and hitting a rock with the inner shoe!
I believe that a Kuhn or New Holland will work as well, as they were all made by Kuhn! As for salvage yards, I have no idea! In this area the only hope would be a dealer's bone yard.

After thinking on it, I think I broke mine because it did not break away. I was in some real thick, hay and water grass and the ground was wet. I saw the belts starting to smoke so I quit and went to the shop to tighten the belts, when I removed the cover I noticed the belts out of whack then I saw the rear cover on the gear box cracked, thats when I just got that sick feeling and came to the house!

The quill could be replaced if that's what broke and not the box case EB56144500 QUILL (REAR) ADD 130.00

Also the parts from an earlier model Kuhn will interchange.

Thanks Jim I am hoping that I can replace that cover and bearing, I will probably get in to it next week and see.
