2600 Electrical

OK guys, I know I"m stupid and this elec thing is getting out of hand. Question: I have an always hot wire from bat to ign switch; a wire from spring loaded start position on ign switch thru trans safety switch to solenoid. Nothing else wired up to ign switch. The tractor starts and runs with just these two wires. Is this normal? I don"t need a run wire? Ford 2600 diesel.

Heres a pic of alternator in question as well as a shot of the rust bucket.

Perfectly normal. A diesel does not need electric to run. (At least the older ones didn't) Shut off is with a pull knob isn't it?
Heck the Amish will even use a diesel since it doesn't use electric. I always thought it funny to see a motor driven baler being pulled by a team of horses! Go figure???
