2630 Hydraulic Direction

I have had my 2630 for about a year and everything with the hydraulics worked fine until this spring when it started to act a little sporadic. Don't know when or if the fluid has been changed and it is a little milky looking. So, I am going to change the fluid and I am wondering if there are any things I should look for when I do it. Also, how do I make sure all the fluid is out of the entire system before I start filling it again.

Any hints, suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Kevin, if your oil is milky looking, then you have water in it. After you drain it, you need to check and clean the sump screen while you have the oil out. Flush out the transmission case with some diesel fuel to try to get out as much of the milky oil as you can. Change filter and fill with new oil. It may take a few oil changes to get all the milky oil out. Take a good look at the shift lever boots. If they are hard, cracked, split, or gone, replace them. They are the main reason why water gets into the hydraulic oil. Also make sure that the fill cap is in good shape. That is another way water can get into the oil. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. This is probably a dumb question, but how do I clean the sump screen? Do you have to pull a pan off to get access to the screen? What's the chances of it just being a plugged screen and not the pump itself. Seems like it works for a while under power discing, then the power steering & three point quits. If I leave it idle for a while then it starts again. The transmission works it's just the three point & power steering.

Thanks again for your help.

The sump screen is on the lower right side of the case behind the filter under a large plug that will require a 1/2 inch drive to remove, smack it with a hammer first, it will help loosen it, reach in with your thumb and pull it out, if there is a lot of crapp in it rig up a long 'spoon' and rake the junk out of the bottom of the case,,if you scoop up some when you go back in it will send it directly to the pump and put the kill to it.

Does your tractor have ind pto(yellow handled lever between gear shift handles) or hyd hi-lo(lever on LH side of dash)? If so the supllyy tubes of eithe could be your problem. Also with tractor running,3pt raised look inside hyd filler hole for spaying hyd oil.

I'll also add to what JDTECH stated about checking hyd filler cap to be sure the breather holes are not plugged with debris.

Thanks for the info. Based on how it's acting, what's the most likely story with it? Do pumps act on and off? Could it just be the screen not letting enough fluid to the pump? Or could there be an internal leak?

Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks again.
