John Derred 2640 will start and then cut off. Changed filter and still no luck. Can losen bolt on side of injector pump until fuel runs out and tractor will run(as long as fuel fuel excapes). Tighten bolt and tractor will cut off. Any suggestions?

Check fitting at pump and work back from there to tank. You might first remove hood and check if short rubber hose at top of tank is kinked.

I'm assuming you've got the Stanadyne/Roosamaster rotary pump.

You can remove the valve and break the little glass ball and spring out of it. Then it will fine fine (for while). Do it too long, any you'll eventually ruin the pump.

That fitting is a housing-pressure regulator. When the plastic weight retainer falls apart inside the pump, those little pieces get stuck in that valve. So, bore out that valve and it might run fine for awhile. That is, unless a bigger chunk works it's way up further and plugs the return line at the injectors.

Proper fix is to take the pump off and apart. Then put a new plastic ring in . . . or update and eliminate it forever. Takes a few hours of work. $35-50 in parts to fix back to original. An extra $45 to upgrade. If you send the pump to a shop, they won't upgrade unless you ask. It's automatic for cars and trucks, but only done on request for farm tractors. Also, a shop will install you $500-$700 to install $50 worth of parts.

Weight retainer ring failure if Stanadyne. Two hours work and $50 to fix at home. Add an extra $500-$700 if you send it out.

$14 seal kit, $8 bushing, and a new $5 housing-regulator is usually all that is needed.
