2705 hand brake

I can"t set the hand brake on my 2705. It pulls out and locks but doesn"t do anything. It is real hard to pull out.
The brakes work fine with the pedals.
Makes it real interesting to get in the uphill gate at the road.
I noticed there is a cable about the size of my finger broken off and sticking out from above the transmission. But I don"t think that is the hand brake cable.
I just bought this tractor from my FIL and trying to fix up a few things.

I have the feeling that the broken cable you see IS the parking brake cable. And if you follow it back , it will end up on the bottom of the tractor at the rear of the transmisssion .The parking brake is totally independent of the regular pedal opereated brakes on the tractor.

There is a smaller cable coming out of the front of the cab that goes into a squarish?? part of the transmission that drops below the rest of the transmission. What is that?
The larger frayed cable goes back toward the rear of the tractor and I can"t tell where it goes.
I see on agco parts lists that it shows a transmission lock and a handbrake, what do each of those do?
Thanks

On our 2705 that is the parking brake or transmission lock. I think that they are the same thing, just different names.

I am concerned about what the larger cable is that is frayed, just sticking out above the transmission. It is a lot larger than the cable I believe is the transmission lock. I asked my father in law, he said, dunno never saw it before.
I have looked the parts list over till I'm blind and can't find it.
Thanks

I'll take a look at ours and see if we have that "larger" cable and maybe even see where it goes.

OK, I checked and the only thing that I see that is bigger (in diameter) than the parking brake push pull cable, is an electrical wiring loom. Are any of the lights etc. on your dash display panel working?

Anyway, back on the parking brake. Take the cover off of the "squarish part of the tranny" and have a look inside and if you are lucky you may see why the parking brake is not working. The cover on the bottom is just a dust cover. Even thought there may be oil leaking out (that is just leaky seals) there is no oil behind that cover.

Thanks much for going to the trouble of checking!!!
I haven't ran it at dark to know if the dashlights are working.

This cable looks like an aircraft cable that has been pulled apart but it has a plastic or nylon center. It disappears from view above the differential.

I was going to ask you what you just told me about taking the cover off, I was afraid I might get drowned in hydraulic fluid if I pulled that cover off. Maybe I can figure out what the problem is. Does your's set pretty easy? I have to use both hands just to pull it back. I'm not Arnold Shrarzenwhatever, but I'm not a wimp either.
