273, could this be my problem?

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. I put new rollers on the stripper arms, polished up the bill and sharpened the knives but made no difference. Tried playing with it today, noticed the one not stripping had a lot more wiggle than the good side. You can see different positions relative to the twine disks in the first two pics. Third pic is how the knot hangs up. The video shows the amount of play in the bill. I think I need a new gear for the top.

The twine arm must have a good 'rub' in order to push the knot fron the bill hook. Any gap will tend to 'smear' the knot and not push it off.Plus, the knife must be razor sharp. You say there is a lot of wiggle. Are you sure the shaft and bushings are not worn ?

The arms rub good. What I meant by wiggle is actually some rotation of the bill's shaft. Like the flat side of the gear is worn. On the good side the bill points to the left. This one it's rotated toward the back some. Compare the position in the two photos. The video shows what I'm talking about.

Do you have a manual? It will go through the troubleshooting step by step. Go through each step while rotating by hand, and measure the specs they give. You can chase your tail changing random parts. I had a problem years back where it wasn t stripping the knot every once in a while. All it turned out to be was that side needle was out of spec.

have a look this closely and maybe you will see what yours is doing wrong, 2 things to note are the tucker finger and twine tension after tying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V21ag8NIF5c

Tighten up the flat spot to the intermitteng gear by moving the flat side over and moving washers on the shaft to hold it there.

It was too big to upload, cut it down.

Do you have a book? if not,get one. Adjust by the book,in the order of the book and it will tie like a new one.

Regarding your video, this is the exact same thing my 269 does (see my post) This was what I was wondering is causing my issue. I am going to try and see how I can fix this, but if you do, please post a follow up!!

You say the knives are sharp have you accually taken them off the wiper arm and checked em there is one little spot that does the cutting the rest of it stays sharp
