274 hydraulic prime

Would anyone have a reason why my hydraulic pump for the three point and remotes would keep losing it's prime when the tractor is shut off? If I open the supply line and fill with oil it will work fine untill I shut it down again. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would say there is a check valve that is not working. ?????

That would make sense. Would any one know where to look on the 274 for a check valve? I looked in the Agco parts book but don't see one in the parts breakdown

I doubt there is a check valve involved, working or not. Most pumps set up the way yours is pick up prime simply be the vacuum created when the engine starts and the pump begins to turn. When they fail to do so, it's probably a pump issue. Seals are dried out, or broken. It could be sucking air at the shaft seal, or the pump could simply be tired.

A pressure and flow test might help evaluate it's overall condition, provided you know someone with the proper equipment to do that. Most good shops can do it..
