2950 will not start from key

I've got a cab 2950 that is having a start from key issue. When i turn the key I get clicks that appear to come from inside the dash around the circuit breaker fuses under the dash panel. No power to the solenoid. Neutral start switch appears to be working because I will not get any clicks from the dash when its in gear. The PO has wired a push button to the starter but I would like to get it starting from the key correctly. Any suggestions?

Look at the wiring schematic and determine how the start power flows from the key switch to the solenoid. Check the bulkhead connector under the hood. Sometimes those connections get
dirty and corroded and cause open circuits.

Due to this tractor having an added "push button switch" to start circuit one would need to get a tech manual that contains wiring diagram to trace wiring harness start circuit. Problem could be as simple as a faulty relay in starter solenoid engagement circuit

I will look at a tech manual. The push button switch was added by running heavy gauge wires through the right hand lower door to the solenoid and mounting a push button to the loader joystick box. At least he didn't cut into the wiring harness.

There was a discussion of similar problem on this site in 2016

I have read that thread. Mine doesn't have any power down to the solenoid when cranking. I'm losing it somewhere in the dash. I pulled the wiring schematic. TM does show a starter relay under the dash, but I cant figure out which one it is on the JD parts pages. Ill get it traced this weekend and figure out the issue and post back.

I never claim to be an expert, but I am VERY comfortable with my ability to trouble shoot wiring. I had the same issue with my
3150 which is the same as a 2950 cab forward. I chased that issue on and off for a couple of years. It would work fine, but then
one day not. I did install a temporary push button for the days this pos would act up. What I learned was that it does have a
starter relay in the dash. Mine was a sky blue unit seems like it had 3 wires. I did figure out that the starter solenoid was
pulling more amps than the relay could supply. Long story short I had it in the shop for a clutch job and while it was in I
installed a gear reduction starter and a very nice volt meter with a custom mount, with just enough room under the gauge to mount
a heavy duty push button. Starts each time I push that button. Talked to a dozen different guys who seem to have seen the same
issue. First 20 or so years I had it it was fine, but now the electrical gremlins have taken over. Any time I feed cows in the
winter with the heater on, wipers going, lights on and radio on something will fudge up. same issue in the mid hot summer. I
think when ever the dash gets hot the breaker or relays start complaining. I plan on replacing all the breakers and relays before
winter to see if this helps at all. Hope you have better luck with yours. Don't worry, you wouldn't be the only guy with a push
button in a Sound guard cab. Al
