i have a old 2n i was mowing and it back fired and then wouldnt stat back up. i replace the coil and points it will stat up now but wont run over a couple off hundred rpms . any suggestions?

jls1mod,Remove the distributor cap and check inside for carbon tracks ,also check for a broken rotor button. Both will cause backfiring.Worn front axle bushing can cause the axle to hit the cap and break rotors and caps.

You might also want to check for side play in the distributor shaft. A worn bushing will make it impossible to set point gap. Timing will be all over the place.

All sound like sound advice.I once decided to check mine after a little bad running, and the condenser wire was burned in two.---lha

If none of the other fixes get you running, you might check the carb float. I have heard of backfiring causes the float to colapse.
