I am working on a late 2N 6 Volt Ford tractor for a fellow. He was having intermittent starting problems. I found many problems and am solving them. One of the things I found trouble some was the starter brushes looked short. I did the brush replacement, put the starter back together. I did not remove the Bendix. Now I am trying to put the starter back into the tractor and after numerous tries, I just cannot get the starter assembled into the tractor.
I have heard of this problem but have never encountered not being able to get the starter back into the tractor.
With the starter on the bench, with measurements, it looks like the Bendix gear is engaged, where I don't think it should be. Do I have the Bendix out of sequence?
I have bench activated the starter to see if the Bendix resets. No change.
