2n coil update

Old unused OEM resistor was measuring more like 15,000 ^ (ohms), so I am sure it is shot.



"Get a "12v" coil & a new ballast resistor.....and measure the new coil before you hook it up! You probably will need more resistance in the circuit."

Not far from my home, a guy sells antique Ford car parts and had a listing for a square can coil, 12 v, including resistor for $27. Now thats probably his cost or maybe he doesn't have updated prices but I ordered one anyway. Should be here tomorrow. He didn't know if it was a ballast resistor or a ceramic so time will tell.

15kohms sounds lke dirty connections between the scrw terminals and resistor element..

Took ot all apart and best I could get was 5 ohms on shiny metal. Rivets too corroded. ON the wire itself, I can get about .4 ^.

ok!! i'm with u guys. i just got my 12v coil and points,rotor and condencer,cap.(my old one has Ford on it) had a heck of a time. rotor inside notch of new rotor wasn't notched far enough down so couldn't get cap on. ended up using old one. very,very long story short is that i gotter done. BUT i'm just about the same as Ken here Dell. i've got that thing you showed there and a ceramic one. Could u please in very SIMPLE TERMS lol where my coil wire goes, starting from the coil? the resister of mine is dull but looks in good shape as is the ceramic one. it has 2 terminals. thx so much. Gary
