2N Front Axle suport

I recently sold my Davis / Midwest loader that came off my 2N. The new owner got it home with all the brackets that I had and the
front bracket will not mount to his 8N. I seem to recall there were different axle supports in use. Here's a picture of what I
have. I's like to help him out.

Hi Kirk, that front axle support on your tractor isn't an original 2N or 8N support. I'm not familiar with front end loaders, but I'll bet that support you have on your tractor goes with the loader. If your 2N has a S.N. after 167488 you can just swap supports with the guy that bought your loader. If it is earlier then that, I don't know what the difference was between supports. My parts manual just says that support number 2N-3029-A was for 2N up to that S.N. and 2N-3029-B was for 2N's after that S.N. and 8N's. Nice paint job by the way.

To me that axle support looks like an early 2N OEM support same as used on the 9N but with provision for the cap screw and axle pin used on the later 2N and 8N. The radiator support that would have been riveted to the front of the support has been removed and the holes in the face of the support are for the missing rivets. There is no place to attach the sheet metal (dig legs) now that the loader brackets have been removed. The 8N support is quite different and the new owner of the loader may not be able to use the front brackets without doing some fabricatuion.

I should have also added that in addition to the sheet metal there is now no place to mount the radiator on the 2N.

Seeing that naked support set my mind to percolating - always a dangerous proposition. It looks like a really handy place for all sorts of possible shop made attachments - most notably loaders, front blades, and hydraulic pumps....

(quoted from post at 11:14:29 08/23/18) Yep. The radiator / dogleg support is there after I finished. It's bolted onto the axle support.
So what was there when the loader was attached? The radiator support is not normally bolted to the casting - it is riveted to it.
