2N hydraulic squirts

I looked in the right heel inspection plate.

I have squirts from the area between the right- front side of the pump and the bulkhead by the tube that runs to the top lift cover.

It seems it is coming from below the fluid surface, maybe at the base of the vertical tube but not sure yet.

The squirt is continuous with the bush-hog up at a constant height (I have Zane's position control).

The squirt is larger (of course) when moving the bush-hog up higher when the control valve is fully closed.

Any thoughts of the source of the squirts?

Thanks,

Greg

In order of increasing pain:

1) Gasket seal at the tube
2) A hole in the pipe
3) A crack in the pump base.

Any tricks to pinpointing where it is.
I don't know if I can feel where it is coming from with my fingers.

BTW, I have your live hydraulics with the PTO disengaged for safety.
It makes it easy to see turbulence, etc.

keep yer fingers out of there.. high pressure oil can cause loss of life or at least limb if injected under the skin.

Ditto what TOH said on the possible leak locations.

drain the oil down a bit, and perhaps park on a grade front right up, so that oil is not pooled around the fron corner of the pump, but still covers the low pickup point... might help you see if it is the gasket, or a pinhole in the base of the stand pipe, or the possible crack.

me personally? I'd prefer a gasket first, and crack second. and tube last..

Had mine apart a month or so ago for a leak in the same area. Turned out to be a cracked valve chamber probably from water in the sump freezing in the winter. Had an old pump & the only thing any good was the valve chamber I needed.

In your case I would drain the oil then remove the hyd suction hose and place it in the drained oil are new oil.. Disable the ignition and crank the engine over... if need be start the engine.... Live hyd. opens the door to allot of different options...

I like Hobo's approach. Drain the sump into a bucket and use the bucket to supply the external pump. Should be able to see the source of the leak leak pretty clearly with the pump running and the sump empty. If you put the bucket under the open sump drain so the oil continues to drain into it you can run the motor all you want....

Y'all are awesome!!!

If the internet is good for something it's this.

Never mind my woes if it's a cracked pump or a hole in the vertical tube, I'll cross that bridge later.
I've been using the hydraulics this way for some time now.
Just thought I would look in to see how things work like Dell always says to do.. look for squirts.

Cheers,

Greg

Yes...

Now I remember a buddy of mine who had paint under pressure forced into his fingers and his hand swelled up like a baloon!!!

Thanks, I'll inspect from afar.

i know a guy that had hyd oil injected under the skin of his arm.. it swelled up, burst, and had to stay open and continously debrided for a few weeks.. they saved his arm.. but it was a terrible traumatic experience..
