2N Left Rear Wheel Stuck

Hi All, I'm new to old tractors and this forum.

When looking for a winter project I offered to paint my son-in-law's '47 2N. Paint is being delayed for badly brakes and axle seals.

With that, I'm not able to free the left wheel. I've seen videos of beating the tire with a sledgehammer and read about driving in tight circles with the lug nuts loosened.

Driving in tight circles won't work in the residential neighborhood I live in.

So, I've been turning the tire and spraying Liquid Wrench so it should work down between the break drum and wheel, and every day or two try a sledgehammer on the tire. I'm also able to get behind the fender and get a good hit using a one inch brass drift on the outer rim.

Is it just a matter of time before the penetrating oil and hammers work?

Something curious, there is a two piece cogged band around the brake drum. I don't think that's my problem, but I really don't know.

It's important to know, I'm not a mechanic. I played with Ford muscle cars back in the day, but that was a long time ago.

BDevlin , Keep spraying PB Blaster around lug nuts and rim center,pounding the tire with sledge.Or take a bottle jack and a short length of 2x4 and a 4x4 block cut to length to fit with the jack between the tires on the floor. Jack the tires apart to break rim free.

The cog on the brake drum was for a mounted planter.

Thank you, sir. It appears I'm on the right path. I have been using a 2x4 and small jack as a spreader bar, overnight, between the wheels. My thinking was a little pressure couldn't hurt.

I didn't want to overdo it and damage the bearings. Don't know if that's a reasonable worry or not.

I hope you have 2 lug nuts threaded on the studs when you're trying to knock the wheel off. Just threaded on enough to prevent the wheel coming completely off and causing a problem.

Let the air out of the tire and heat the rim with a torch. Keep a couple lug nuts on loosely.
